When must you turn on your headlights?

Turn on your headlights at night. Also turn them on at any time when you cannot clearly see 150 metres (500 feet) in front of you. Daytime running lights are not bright enough at night, and with them your tail-lights stay off.

Practice question

At night, why are daytime running lights not enough?

  1. They work only when the vehicle is stopped.
  2. They use too much fuel.
  3. They are not bright enough, and the tail-lights stay off.
  4. They shine only to the side.
Show answer

Correct answer: They are not bright enough, and the tail-lights stay off.

Daytime running lights give less light than headlights. At night, the tail-lights and instrument panel lights also stay off, so you must turn on your headlights.
